Luck is on your side

I think it's good to have a few lucky items. Stuff you wear that makes you feel the universe is on your side...lucky scarf, socks, boxers. I like Cindy Ng's lucky necklaces, which are lucky in a subtle sorta way:

Tag: I'm It

I was tagged by Callie and Carrie last week to reveal 6 quirky but boring details. Thanks for picking me...I feel like such an official blogger now! So here they are:

1. Our family pet growing up was a rooster named Chuck. No, we didn't live on a farm, but at the end of a cul-de-sac in a very suburban town called Alameda. Finally, Chuck's 4 am crowing and our very annoyed neighbors convinced us he had to go to the petting zoo.

2. For about 9 months, I was addicted to chewing ice and Altoids all day long. I would constantly refill ice trays during these months, until they were this perfect crunchy consistency and munch away. I'm sure I permanently damaged my teeth during this time.

3. I've just learned that I'm allergic to YUMMY (that includes garlic, peanuts, orange juice, grapefruit juice, pepper, cauliflower, lobster, crab and MORE!) I don't necessarily avoid these foods and end up paying the price by having itchy rashy skin for a few hours.

4. I have the ability to fall asleep immediately in any moving vehicle. It's my superhero power.

5. When I was a kid, I made earrings out of twisting paperclips with pliers, thinking I could have a lucratic paperclip earring business. I was wrong.

6. I have an extremely strong sense of smell. My husband is always saying "The nose knows" because I'll smell something (bakery, fire, dog poop) minutes before he does. Or maybe this just means he has a weak nose.

Ok..my turn to tag:

The Small Stakes / Poster Art of Jason Munn

Jason Munn's work makes you want to buy the poster, regardless of the band. We've stopped by his booth at a couple of Treasure Island Music Festivals and we're always so tongue-tied..."I like your work so much!" is all we can sputter. Ok, ok, by "we", I mean just me.

Call me!

I want the Crosley Classic Kitchen phone someday. "a tribute to famed designer Henry Dreyfuss, who created many of the now-classic telephone models made popular in the mid-20th century. This wall-mounted phone was originally designed to allow consumers to walk with the phone while cradling it on their shoulder...Believe it or not, Dreyfuss actually used measurements from over 2000 faces to determine the average distance between the mouth and ear." Sold!

132 birds

It is a beautiful new morning!

20x200 has a cool print ($20) by Jason Polan, 132 Birds at The American Museum of Natural History. He states: "I like spending time drawing at The American Museum of Natural History. For this project I drew 132 of the birds at the museum. There are owls and eagles and finches and hornbills and about one hundred others. I draw these birds because I am interested in learning about both their similarities and differences. I also really like how they look." (via kottke)

Beards beards beards

Halloween might be over, but you can ALWAYS use a disguise. I honestly don't know what I like more...the beards themselves, or her descriptions of the beards. About $30-40 to get yourself the beard you always wanted from the I Made You a Beard etsy shop.

"This beard reminds me of an old man in a crisp suit. Finely tailored, classically stylish. Suitable for dinner parties, first dates, or just day-to-day wear."

"This beard has multiple personalities. Wearing your new beard, you could start the day as a pirate, your thick beard sheltering your face from the salty sea air. By noon, your beard could be that of a lumberjack, woolly and warm in the forest. For evening, fold down the moustache, and you have yourself a Lincoln-esque beauty of a beard. You could even leave your moustache up, and just look like the classy bearded individual you really are."

Sunday Sun Jar

Since Reform School is moving and offering 15% off on online orders (through November 4, code "MOVING08"), I'm thinkin about getting this sun jar. "Captured inside the jar are a highly efficient solar cell, rechargable battery, and low energy LED lamps." Original design by Tobias Wong. I love the idea of capturing the sunlight in a mason jar.
